The Samsung BD-P4600 is the latest in a series of home entertainment products where the emphasis has been put as much on external design as it has the internal performance.
There is no doubting that the Samsung BD-P4600 is a stunning Blu-ray player. Designed specifically to be wall mounted the slim player will take centre stage in your home entertainment system and it is certainly not one of those black boxes that you will tire of looking at. With its subtle curves and back lit display the Samsung exudes style and class like no other Blu-ray player we’ve seen. Even if you can’t quite bring yourself to wall mount the player, Samsung have supplied an built in stand so it you can still have it partially upright. All the front panel controls are touch sensitive adding to its classy appeal.
As you would expect these days, the P4600 is right up to date with the latest Blu-ray profile, BD-LIVE, and also includes 1Gb of built in memory so you can take full advantage. If you use up this space, there is a USB port on the front so you can continue to download BD-LIVE content without worries. In addition to this, the player also includes other up to the minute features to keep it ahead of the competition. Like the BD-P1600, you can connect a network cable to the players ethernet port on the rear of the player and you’ll be able to connect to your network and stream DivX, MP3 and JPEG-HD from your PC. You can also optionally add a wireless dongle (available from Amazon.co.uk) if you want to connect without wires.
In addition to the stunning high definition Blu-ray playback, the player is capable of full 1080p upscaling to give your existing DVDs a near HD improvement, as well as support for all the current high definition sound formats to keep the player as futureproof as it can be.
What to consider before you buy the Samsung BD-P4600
The main gripe with this player is the lack of the wireless dongle in the box – with a player this stylish, the last thing you want is another cable tracking up the wall and should have been included.
Why you should buy the Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player
It’s not often we can say that a Blu-ray player looks as stunning as the pictures it outputs, but with the P4600, it is most certainly true. With prices under £250, the player is a great buy and will not disappoint. Rating: /5
