If you’re serious about home cinema, and have anything but a small sized room, then a 40” screen is probably the best size to start with and also where full HD really starts to make sense. The trouble is, screens this size are often expensive and whilst the Samsung LE40C530 may not bursting with features, or amongst the best available, it is very good value and is a great way to start enjoying the big screen experience.
The looks of the LE40C530 are typical Samsung – clean simple lines, and a glossy black finish – there really isn’t much to dislike here. At 970mm wide, 600mm high (without the stand) and 78mm deep, it is perfect for wall mounting, or if you prefer there is a stand included which brings the height to 653mm and the depth to 240mm.
Connection options on the Samsung LE40C530 are surprisingly generous, with two HDMI sockets on the rear and one on the side which is useful for easily connecting devices such as digital camcorders. There is a component video cable on the rear of you need it, and an optical output also. Also on the side of the television is a USB socket for the ‘Connect Share Movie’ feature which basically means you can plug in a USB stick and watch the films, view the photos, and listen to the music that’s on there.
The performance of the Samsung LE40C530 is aided by the HyperReal Engine and has the Wide Colour Enhancer to bring, in Samsungs words, breathtakingly stunning picture quality. The Full HD 1080p is welcome, but really a minimum requirement at this size.
Other little features such as Anynet+ are great if you have a Samsung home cinema system, or other compatible devices, you can control them all from the single remote control. The built in Freeview is the standard version, not Freeview HD, so you’ll need to use Sky HD or but an external Freeview HD box if you want high definition content.
What to consider before you buy the Samsung LE40C530
The lack of features could put off some, and you may want to factor in a high definition television receiver to really get the most from the set.
Why you should buy the Samsung LE40C530
When televisions are priced this competively, you can forgive them alot, and the LE40C530 is a prime example. It might not have the frills, but it does have full HD 1080p, and is a very good price indeed. Rating: /5
