The Humax PVR9150T is a Freeview Digital set top box with a difference. Not only can it receive up to 48 digital Freeview channels through your aerial, but it can also record up to 100 hours of television, as well as pause and rewind live tv at the click of a button.
The Humax PVR-9150T is a good looking and very solid looking device from one of the leading manufacturers in personal video recorders. The front of the unit has a grill effect black finish with a central backlit display in the middle to inform you what channel number you are viewing as well as other status information such as whether the unit is recording. The rear of the recorder has two scart sockets as well an aerial output for a VCR, and of course the aerial input. It also has the standard features of Freeview with access to up to 48 channels and a full seven day electronic programme guide.
Even with its good looks though, the main point of the Humax PVR-9150T is its ability to record, pause and rewind live tv so you never miss a programme you don’t want to. To achieve this, the PVR9150 has two Freeview tuners in it so that one can be used when recording, and the other one whilst watching. This also allows you to enjoy picture in picture for viewing two programmes on the one screen at the same time which is genuinely very useful, especially for sports fans. The clever storage capability of the box allows you to simultaneously record one program whilst watching another recorded programme, as well as pause and rewind live television. It cannot be underestimated just how useful this is, and like Sky+ that has this functionality for a while, you really will wonder how you ever managed without it. The PVR9150T has a 160GB hard disk so that up to 100 hours of television can be recorded, and this can be a single programme or you can set the box to record an entire series of programmes if you want to watch at a later date.
What to consider before you buy the Humax PVR-9150T
The 9150 has a lot of features for the money, but the low cost has meant that an HDMI socket has is lacking on this model. If 100 hours of recording space is not enough, you may want to consider the next model in the range, the Humax PVD-9300T.
