If you’re the owner of a compatible home cinema system like the Blu-ray SC-BT230, the Panasonic SH-FX71 gives you the option of having your rear speakers work wirelessly instead of having to trail cables from the main unit to the speakers.
It’s not quite as simple as it sounds though. In order to keep the rear speakers small, and to prevent you having to buy a brand new pair, you’ll have to make a bit of a compromise. The main part of the Panasonic SH-FX71 is essentially a wireless receiver, and into this you have to physically connect your two rear speakers – so whilst the system does allow your rear speakers to be wirefree from the main home cinema system – there is still a cabled connection involved. Of course whilst this is not ideal, it should be easy to hide the 165mm square unit, and at least you don’t have to worry about how to route cables through your lounge.
Whilst almost identical to the wireless system for the previous generation Panasonic home cinema systems, the SH-FX71 has a new system which is more tolerant to interference so should give you a more reliable experience.
What to consider before you buy the Panasonic SH-FX71 Wireless Speaker Kit
The height of the main unit is 95mm which will make it difficult to hide it under a sofa – we would like to have see a more flatter design..
Why you should buy the Panasonic SHFX71 Wireless Speaker Kit
Whilst not a perfect solution, the SH-FX71 could solve a lot of problems in your home cinema set up and be worth every single penny! Rating: /5

What is the power souce for these units. Is it mains or transmitted somehow?
David
It is an amplified unit so it need to be plugged in to the mains using the supplied cable.
I have been after the SH-FX70 for my SC-BT200 since I bought it about a year ago but it’s always out of stock and I’m not even sure if it’s discontinued. Will this SH-FX71work with my system?
In theory, it should work, but Panasonic may have changed the transmitter that goes in the rear of the system, so it would be a bit risky to try it, unless you could return it to the store later.
Panasonic tech support are often quite helpful – you could try giving them a call on 0844 844 3852.
Let us know how you get on.
If you can’t get any joy from their live support, look on the Panasonic site, and you’ll find the printed specs seem identical, but the picture of the transmitter cards look different. We need to inspect the actual cards or the sockets for them in the various players. Try haunting your local high street retailers. They’ll probably have a player or two, if not the wireless gadget. The spec also says you can use two outfits to give you 7.1. Maybe there’s an option that doesn’t contain the (presumably) redundant extra transmitter. Me, I’m going to wait to see what the new year brings before I splash out.
i have the sc-pt480eb-k home cinema system can i use the sh-fx71 with it?
warren
No, only the SC-BT230, SC-BT300 and SC-BT735.
I’m interested to know whether Nharris managed to find the answer to his question? I’m in the exact same position (bought an SC-BT200 last year and found as soon as I tried to buy the wireless speaker receiver it was out of stock everywhere). According to the Panasonic site the SH-FX71 only supports the SC-BT230, SC-BT300 and SC-BT735 home cinema systems. Any ideas whether there is a wireless solution for the SC-BT200?
I’ve emailed Panasonic tech support, so will post back here if I hear from them.
It would be interesting to hear their reply, thanks Tom.
i am thinking of buying a panasonic sc-btt350ebk cinema system what wireless kit goes with this model and would it be compatable with a samsung 3d tele
If the SC-BTT350 supports the wireless speakers, it will be this module. Make sure your manual says so though – I’ve not seen the BTT350 in the flesh yet.
I have the SC-BT735. How many SH-FX71 Wireless Speaker Kit do I need?
Just 1 kit.
Is the SC-BT330 supported by the SH-FX71?
It is supported by the SC-BT230 so I would expect it to also be supported by the BT330, but I can find no mention of it in the manal. Give Panasonic a call to see if they can help.
what is the difference between the sh-fx71 and the sh-fx71ek?
Nothing – the ‘EK’ just refers to the region and colour, I believe.
Did anyone find the answer to Nharris and Tom Gowers? I’m in exactly the same position!
Only SH-FX70 will work with BT200 different sized transmitter.
My one has small amount of background buzzing from the speakers.
it works with sc-BTT770,and with the all spakers?thanks
Does anyone know, if the SC-BTT775 or SC-BTT770 supported by the SH-FX71?
I have bought this unit and it works fine however, is there anyway that I can have just 1 of the rear speakers running through the wireless system and the other through the main unit?? I can get sound out of rear right speaker via wireless but I have left rear connected to main unit as that is easy to connect but now there is no sound from left rear speaker.
This item is our of stock in the UniteD States. Will this unit work with a system purchased in the U.S.?
Is the sa-btx70 compatible with SH-FX71. I had a FX70 but this is now broken and cant find one for less than £100. I have found the FX71 for £39.99.
