If you want to get the most out of your existing DVD collection and get near high definition quality without having to replace all your discs with Blu-ray, the Toshiba XD-E600 could be just what you’re looking for.
Sitting at the very top of the Toshiba DVD player range, the XDE (eXtended Detail Enhancement) series was developed when the high definition format, HD-DVD, saw its demise at the hands of Blu-ray. Toshiba designed a player with a decoding and upscaling system that would take your existing standard definition DVDs and make them as near high definition quality as possible.
The results have always been highly respected with the previous model, the XD-E500, receiving much praise. The new model, Toshiba XD-E600, looks to improve on that and Toshiba have very kindly reduced the price of the new model meaning that in most stores it will actually be cheaper than the previous model.
The player itself is sleek and good looking, and Toshiba have gone for a gloss black finish to complement a wide range of home entertainment equipment. The sloped front fasica is fairly simple in design with the XDE logo taking pride of place in the centre of the player, and the three playback buttons, an eject and power button and a USB connection on the bottom right of the front panel. The rear of the player has all the necessary connections with RGB Scart, Component and of course HDMI out, as well as a digital coaxial and optical sound outputs for connection to a suitable home cinema receiver.
What to consider…
If you don’t mind replacing your DVD collection with Blu-ray discs, you might want to consider saving your money and getting a Blu-ray player instead.
Why you should buy the Toshiba XD-E600 DVD Player
As some Blu-ray players can suffer from below par DVD playback, the XD-E600 makes an ideal addition to get the best out of your existing collection. And at prices this good, there is no reason not to have the best of both formats. Highly recommended. Rating: /5
