Freeview gone all weird? This could be why…

Freeview LogoIn case you weren’t aware, the Freeview service will have a big shake-up today, with a few more channels being added and others being moved around. In order to make the most of this you will have to retune your Freeview box, or your Freeview television!

I don’t know about you, but I’m old enough to remember when ‘retuning’ involved manually tuning each of the four channels of my television into a viewable picture. This involved a rotary dial which was turned and turned until the picture became clear. Later on you could do it with your remote control, but it still took ages. So therefore, it is not surprising that the words ‘retune your FreeView’ box will strike fear into some people!

However it is actually pretty easy. Obviously I can’t give instructions here because every Freeview box and television is different, but in general, there should be an option in the menu that says something like ‘Add Chaneels’ or ‘Scan for Channels’. Hit that option, and wait while it does its stuff – but be warned it could take five to ten minutes so do it well before your favourite television programme is on.

Full instructions for pretty much every box and television are available on the TV Retune website and boxes will need retuning after midday on the 2 October 2009.
