If you’re not satisfied with the sound quality from your television, or are looking to enhance the bass and improve the overall effects, one of the simplest ways to do so is with a soundbar.
Soundbars are popular because not only do they improve the audio from your televisions often weedy speakers, but they can also give you virtual surround effects. There are also very few wires to connect, making them easy to install, and many, such as the Panasonic SC-HTB500 and the Samsung HW-C470 Soundbar also come with a wireless subwoofer giving you even more freedom from wires.
Soundbars tend to be designed specifically to match the brands televisions, and the Panasonic SC-HTB500 is no exception – it will blend perfectly Panasonic televisions, but because of its simple design will also complement other brands too. The weight of the unit is only 2.8kg so is straightforward to wall mount (using the two supplied brackets) or you can have it freestanding if you wish. The dimensions are 1.02m wide by 108mm high, and a very impressive 58mm deep and houses the two 65mm Advanced Bamboo Cone speakers that output 60w each.
The rear of the Panasonic SC-HTB500 has an HDMI output with ARC (Audio Return Channel) for connecting to your television, as well as an additional HDMI input so you can connect your Blu-ray player or games console. If your television is not ARC compatible, you can use the optical input to connect it to the soundbar instead.
The subwoofer is a 25cm Kelton type and is a wireless model so the soundbar does not need to be physically connected to the sub. This is a huge bonus, as having cables running from one device to the other kind of defeats the object of having a nice tidy soundbar in the first place. The subwoofer still needs to be connected to the mains but you do have a flexibility of where to position it. With the sub on, the soundbar has a total power output 240w.
There is a remote control with the system, albeit a very small one, so you can control the volume and audio effects.
What to consider before you buy the Panasonic SC-HTB500
If you could put up with 5 speakers, the Panasonic SC-BT230 isn’t that much more so could be worth considering.
Why you should buy the Panasonic SC-HTB500 Soundbar
With a wireless subwoofer, the ultimate convenience of a soundbar just got even better, and with Panasonics stylish design suiting many different makes of television, this Panasonic looks to be one of the best around at the moment. Rating: /5
