The Samsung BD-C5500 is the new entry level player from the brand that brought us the extremely popluar BD-P1600.
The Samsung BD-C5500 substantially moves the game on in terms of features and has been designed to fully make the most of internet content. Samsung’s own Internet@TV service gives you access to a large selection of online content such as the now essential BBC iPlayer, as well as Muzu.TV music and LoveFilm movie streaming. Like the Sony BDP-S370 though, the much promoted wireless capability is an additional extra – you’ll need to buy the wireless dongle to take the full benefit. You can of course connect a network cable to the port in the rear and get slightly better performance, but access to a nearby router is not always that convenient. All this effort is worth it though, as the Samsung Allshare feature really does bring the future to your television screen. With Allshare you can view your photographs, music and movies from your PC and mobile devices on your television, and even see who is calling and testing you on your Samsung mobile phone on your tv screen!
As well as supporting DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, the Samsung BD-C5500 is a full 1080p HD player which can play MP3, DivX, Divx HD, JPEG, JPEG HD, MKV, and AVCHD files. The connection options are fairly standard with HDMI, component and optical, and a USB socket on the front of the player. The Samsung BDC5500 also comes with screen fit technology so a 21:9 letterbox movie will fill the screen on your 16:9 widescreen television. You can turn this latter feature off if you wish, but it could be very handy for those who have smaller televisions and don’t want black bars at the top and bottom.
What to consider before you buy the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray Player
To take full advantage of the capabilities of the player you will really need the Samsung WIS09ABGN wireless dongle. The BD-C5500 shares a similar specification to the BD-C5300 which is also worth a look.
Why you should buy the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray Player
The C5500 is a smart looking player with some very cool features, and even when you add on the price of the wireless dongle, it still makes a good value player.Highly recommended. Rating: /5
