Panasonic’s new 2010/11 range of Blu-ray players starts off with a brand new budget model, the DMP-BD45 which offers almost everything you need to start enjoying high definition playback at an easy on the pocket price.
Let’s start with the looks and you’ll notice that like the previous generation players such as the DMP-BD60, the Panasonic DMP-BD45 has a very similar look. Panasonic have given the front of the player a more thorough blast from the black spray gun though, and we think it looks all the better for it, making it look much more modern than the previous models which looked a little dated to our eyes.
Whilst it may lack a few features such as, surprisingly, BD-LIVE support, the DMP-BD45 does have all the main things you need to enjoy high definition as well as an SD Card for viewing JPEG images, and a USB slot at the front that supports DivX and DivX HD as well as MP3. These two sockets are very neatly concealed under a flap on the front of the player, under the Panasonic badge and show an attnetion to design often not seen on players of the price. The other connection options on the DMP-BD45 include the standard HDMI and Optical out. If you have a compatible television you will also like the inclusion of the Viera link support.
The previous Panasonic Blu-ray players were universally lauded for their high quality playback, and Panasonic have gone to great lengths to ensure this remains the case on the DMP-BD45 by including the High Precision 4:4:4 engine, and the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus which is even used on the top of the range player.
What to consider before you buy the Panasonic DMP-BD45 Blu-ray Player
The lack of an Ethernet socket and BD-LIVE support may be a stumbling block for some customers – if so, the Panasonic DMP-BD65 is the player for you.
Why you should buy the Panasonic DMPBD45 Blu-ray Player
Despite the budget price, the BD45 has plenty going for it, and most customers are going to be very happy with what they get for the money – Panasonic quality at a low price. Rating: /5
