Samsung HT-BD7200 Blu-ray 2.1 Home Cinema System

Similar in looks to Samsungs gorgeous BD4600 Blu-ray player, the HT-BD7200 is a 2.1 home cinema system with serious style and performance to match.

From the gloss black of the speakers and subwoofer to the rounded curves of the Blu-ray player, the Samsung HT-BD7200 is a pleasure to look and certainly not your usual ‘black box’. The tall speakers are 600mm high making them easy to position next to your television, with the relatively compact subwoofer just over 250mm high and wide, and 300mm deep. Being a 2.1 system the BD 7200 relies upon virtual audio trickery to create a surround sound effect, and whilst it does an admirable job, it is never going to be able to reproduce the full 5.1 experience.

Samsung HT-BD7200 Blu-ray Home Cinema SystemWhat the HT-BD7200 does have though is bags of connection options. Fully compatible and certified for use with iPods, it even includes an cradle to sit your little player in, which charges whilst the music streams from the device. It is also Bluetooth compatible, so you can connect to your phone or MP3 device without wires, but also includes an USB socket so you can do it with. If that wasn’t enough, plug in an ethernet cable to the back of the player, or purchase the optional wireless dongle and you can stream content directly from your PC.

The player itself is up to date with the latest Blu-ray profile (BD-LIVE), and being Blu-ray, the picture is of course, fantastic. Whilst you’d expect the high definition picture to be good, the BD7200 also gives you the full benefit of high definition audio too and is able to decode all the latest formats like DTS-HD Master and Dolby TrueHD.

What to consider before you buy the Samsung HT-BD7200

One of the benefits of this system for many people is the lack of speakers, however, it is also its biggest shortcoming and can’t quite pull off the full 5.1 experience, despite doing an admirable job.

Why you should buy the Samsung HT-BD7200

If you like your gear to look as good as it sounds, the Sammy certainly doesn’t disappoint and considering you can use it as the high definition hub of your home entertainment system, you’ve got the substance to match the style. Rating: 4/5
